Preview

The Minnesota Twins head to T-Mobile Park on Saturday, August 1 for a 4:10 p.m. ET showdown with the Seattle Mariners. Connor Prielipp gets the start for Minnesota, drawing a stiff assignment in Logan Gilbert, one of the American League's most reliable starters. This is a road test that will tell us plenty about where the Twins stand as the calendar flips to August and the second half of the season intensifies. Catch the action on FS1, Twins.TV Presented by Progressive, or on the radio at WCCO 830.

Minnesota Twins vs. Seattle Mariners: Saturday, August 1, 2026 Game Preview

This matchup puts a lot of weight on the Twins' pitching decision. Prielipp is the away starter, and the Mariners are sending Gilbert — a veteran right-hander who has built a reputation as one of the more difficult arms in the AL to square up. Without current ERA or win-loss figures available, we'll let the names speak for themselves: this is a tough draw for Minnesota, and Prielipp will need to be sharp from the first inning.

Starting Pitching Breakdown

Connor Prielipp (Minnesota Twins)

Prielipp draws the start for the Twins on Saturday. The left-hander has worked his way into meaningful rotation consideration, and a start against a disciplined Seattle lineup is exactly the kind of audition that defines a pitcher's value at this level. The Mariners don't give away at-bats, so pitch efficiency and command will be critical. If Prielipp can keep the ball in the zone and work deep into the game, the Twins' bullpen gets a chance to breathe.

Logan Gilbert (Seattle Mariners)

Gilbert is the challenge. He works with good extension, keeps hitters off-balance, and pitches to contact in a way that eats innings and limits damage. The Twins' lineup will need to be patient and look to work counts early. If Minnesota can get Gilbert into the fifth and sixth innings having thrown 90-plus pitches, the chances of cracking the Seattle bullpen improve considerably.

Seattle Mariners Lineup to Watch

Seattle is rolling out a lineup with legitimate threats top to bottom. Cole Young leads off at second base, setting the table for Randy Arozarena in the two-hole. Dominic Canzone hits third, with Julio Rodríguez — the Mariners' homegrown centerfielder — batting cleanup. Cal Raleigh slots in at DH fifth, followed by Josh Naylor at first base. Former Twin Mitch Garver hits seventh at catcher, which will be a storyline worth watching as he sees his old club's pitching. Weston Wilson and rookie Colt Emerson round out the order.

Keys to the Game for Minnesota

  • Prielipp must limit the damage against the top of Seattle's order — Arozarena and Rodríguez are capable of doing serious harm if left in hitter's counts.
  • The Twins' lineup needs to show patience against Gilbert. Working walks and grinding at-bats is the formula against a starter of his caliber.
  • Minnesota's defense on the road will matter. T-Mobile Park's spacious outfield rewards teams that run the bases smart and don't give away outs.
  • Watch how the Twins' bullpen is managed if Prielipp exits early — a short outing puts pressure on relievers in a game the club needs.

Prediction

Gilbert is a difficult matchup on any given day, and the Twins are asking Prielipp to go toe-to-toe on the road. Seattle's lineup, particularly the middle of the order with Rodríguez and Raleigh, carries enough pop to make life uncomfortable. That said, if Prielipp locates his fastball and keeps the Mariners' contact-hitters from getting into rhythm, the Twins have enough in the tank to steal one in the Pacific Northwest. It figures to be a close, low-scoring game. Edge: Seattle, 4–2, but Minnesota is more than capable of flipping that script.
